drupalCon 2010/11

For all those interested in influencing the location of the 2010 and 2011 European drupalCons please read and get involved with http://groups.drupal.org/node/27246 The team needs your input now, especially if you are interested in having a UK DrupalCon within the next two years. I for one would love to see the DrupalCon in London, I'm always looking for a good excuse for a visit back to the UK.

I would like to see Drupalcon come the the UK. It has been discussed on #drupaluk IRC many times, and I hope we can get a proposal together.

drupalCon IRC meeting

The #DrupalCon Europe IRC chat will be Thursday, September 24, 20.00 (7.00pm in old fashioned british time) Europe/Berlin in #drupalcon IRC freenode.net http://is.gd/3zLFV Make an appearance and support the opportunity for a UK drupalCon. It's never been easier to organise a drupalcon in your country since the Drupal Association has taken responsibility for the entire event management. All they need from you guys are suggestions for cities backed up by active local drupal communities, no big proposal to write, no venue sourcing, no ticket sales, no accounting, no profit and loss to worry about they just need enthusiasm for the location.

Hi Simon, thanks for

Hi Simon, thanks for promoting this, I'll try to be there.

I'm keen to have a DrupalCon in Cambridge in 2012 - if we have a DrupalCon in the UK lets take the time to make it the best one ever!

I'm sure we can do the best

I'm sure we can do the best Drupalcon ever in 2010. Also I think London is the best location, mainly down to transport links.

Plan ahead, make it great

Based on experience of running quite a few events I think 2010 is completely unrealistic, and 2011 is do-able but will be a rush so it's going to be stressful for those locally involved in organising it - we'll halve kill ourselves to produce something that's not very good.

Cambridge has great transport links, is big enough to accomodate a DrupalCon, but small enough to make it feel like Drupal Town once we're all there - I really liked that aspect of Szged. Also it's an interesting place that overseas Drupal people will want to visit.

I guess Robert and Tim have talked since Tim also tweets Cambridge'11 now. I was on the proposal team for Paris and would like to lend my support to a UK proposal. My only concern for '11 is that we know for a fact that we'll be up against another very strong proposal, being that of MortenDK on behalf of Copenhagen. I know that 2010 is very close, but with the added support of BlueProject (I worked closely with these guys during DCParis) and the association, the work load should be much less than for previous cons. Plus if the UK isn't prepared to have a go for 2010 then someone else will have to step up and work with the same constraints that we are bemoaning. The Paris con was hard work but we had less than 6 months and far less support to get it off the ground but we did it, sure it could have been better but we got a very positive response during and after the event. 2010

I'm already committed to organising other Drupal events in London for the next 6 months, so not going to have any time to contribute towards a 2010 DrupalCon.

Tim is expecting a bundle of joy early next year, so he'll be lucky to find time to sleep let alone work on an event.

Everyone else I know is booked up for the next couple of months, and won't have much chance to find time to help, as much as they would like to.

Realisticly 2010 is to early for a UK DrupalCon. What I would like to suggest instead is a Cambridge DrupalCamp next summer, as a test run, give people experience of working together, scout out pubs, restaurants and accommodation, and test the transport links.

2011

It's obviously essential that you and Tim are onboard for this so lets give Morten a run for his money and go for 2011 ;-) My second is due in 8wks so 2010 will be a busy time for me too. Simon

Hi Robert, Have you ever thought about Oxford as a venue. Great transport links by bus London - every 10 mins 24hrs a day Heathrow - every 30 minutes Gatwick - every 30 minutes Stanstead - every hour. They have two universities with large venues and the town itself is a lot smaller than Cambridge so you will constantly be bumping into drupal people. I have an office here with my business partner and would love to help out. Mark

Don't forget that Drupal Association is strongly leaning towards Germany for 2010

Sure?

I haven't been part of the discussion. Is this just rumour, or is there a presumption that it's going to be in Germany?
