project advice

Can we discuss Drupal performance and tweaking?

Recently launched a site built with Drupal that is getting a lot of traffic. Hosted on a dedicated server we've been having a some trouble with the server crashing due to Drupal's less than efficient SQL queries. I am keen to discuss/workshop this and would appreciate advice if anyone feels they could offer any?
