Ubercart meetup!

Date:
Fri, 18/09/2009 - 18:30 - 21:00
I started using Ubercart a couple of weeks ago and it reminded me of the time when I first started building modules for Drupal i.e. I need some help! hunthunthunt kindly offered me to help and also suggested to make this into a small meetup. If you would like to share your knowledge / pain, join us :) We will be meeting somewhere in central London on Friday evening, but haven't decided where. If you know of any place with free wi-fi and good beer, let us know.

I would like to join you

I am new to Ubercart and would like to join the meet-up to learn more. Let me know where you decide to meet. Here is the Time Out list of free wi-fi spots in Central London http://www.timeout.com/london/features/6187/W... Best regards Anthony

What a fantastic idea

What a great idea. I'm building a couple of e-shops these days and this kind of help together with some pints is a must !

Leon - Spitalfields

Leon (restaurant/cafe/bar) in Spitalfields may be suitable? A short walk from Liverpool St, free wifi, large tables, well-priced coffee, beer and snacks. http://www.spitalfields.co.uk/eating_leon.php Though this would perhaps only suit half a dozen people max and Friday's will probably be busy - but so will anywhere.

pick an unpopular place

Greenman mentioned we should pick an unpopular place so we can actually talk without yelling and learn / get stuff done. Good point :) In the worst-case scenario, I have my mobile internet dongle thingie that will allow me to get online virtually anywhere so we can pick a really run-down pub, which would be one of those 50 pubs that closes every week. We could have a productive meetup for an hour or two, then move to a good pub too.

Heya heya ! ! ! That could

Heya heya ! ! ! That could work out, we do not need 13 laptops all over the place or do we ? One or two will be quite enough to go through the major stuff ! And afterwards ! Ouje ! The proper place could be picked up ! :))) Mori, you're around tomorrow/day after ? Jakub

Here's an advice from

Here's an advice from Dougald Hine, Greenman's colleague at School of Everything: "The Royal Festival Hall has OK wifi and always has plenty of space. The ICA cafe (on The Mall) is another good bet - there are quite a few tables with power sockets in the downstairs part of the cafe and they have good wifi. Good for coffee and beer! The Breakfast Club in Soho (D'Arblay Street) has wifi, but can get a bit crowded. Also, more a coffee place than a beer place."

This sounds like a winner

Great call on making this a meetup!

sounds good

count me in. I'm still planning my first ubercart store which features tangible products, downloads and node access components. start small i say :)

Ubercart + Beer!

Haven't used Ubercart just yet. It's on my todo list and has been for a while. I know the first time I will get to use it is when a customer screams " ... and I need a shopping cart before the Christmas rush". Best I get informed beforehand. A pint on me to he who explains what to do and what to avoid!

Ubercart - beer and wifi

Post the details when you have them. Sounds like a great idea. Finding a quiet wifi pub in London on a Friday night might be difficult, but I am sure there must be one. WiFi is more important than beers. John

Royal Festival Hall

Hey guys Think someone mentioned this before but RFH, Southbank is a good spacious place to meet - been organising informal meetings there since '97 and can usually procure tables and chairs up the stairs (and there are power points, too!) Have a tenner to last me the weekend til payday (Monday) so my attendance will be dictated by funds - but would love to come as about to set up a new store. Stan xx

Royal Festival Hall or BFI next door or National

South bank centre is a good choice, lots of options there. Royal Festival Hall or BFI or National all have good areas with WiFi and they are not to loud. + good connections from Embankment ornext doo Waterloo and the design festival has some exibits going up outside.

How about Holborn?

John and I are thinking of offering our offices as a meet up. Wi-fi access and all the One Water and One Vitamin Water you can drink (might even throw a few condoms your way too!). We are at Parker Street. I'm sure something can be arranged if this suits people. Cheers, Mark.

Holborn Sounds good.

I'm relatively new here and sort of new to Drupal as well, but I'll be needing to configure ubercart in a few days. Am I welcome as well? Bosmaen. I answer to God.
markspall's picture

Surely....

... anyone is welcome. Well anyone is welcome to our office. It's not up to me to decide who is welcome at the group. By the way, we are new to ubercart too. Just about to get started with it. We are getting pretty funky with Drupal though! ;-) It's a rare experience to love a product more the more you use it. :-) Regards, Mark.

Let us know the final decision venue

Really looking forward to Friday's Ubercart mini meetup. Let us know the final decision on the venue, when you know.
markspall's picture

I can't make this Friday....

... and John is on holiday too. So our Holborn office is not a goer I'm afraid. Happy to reschedule. Who is leading this meet-up? Actually in a few weeks we'll have had a good play with ubercart and might be able to add more value. Cheers, Mark.

Great to see so many others using Ubercart

This is proving to be more popular than I thought, so we should definitely make this a regular thing. Mori, do you want to choose a venue? I like the idea of somewhere that is not so popular. I'm certainly no UC expert, just in the process of going live with my first store after a few false starts with previous versions of UC. I'm really looking forward to sharing experiences with other users so would be happy to demo the site I've been working on. And would love to see what other have achieved with UC.

Royal Festival Hall

Too bad Friday doesn't work out, but thanks markspall for your offer :) I saw few people mentioning RFH is a good place so let's have it there: http://www.southbankcentre.co.uk/visiting-us/... The wifi is available on Level 2. I've been there only few times and don't know much about the place. Where in RFH would be a good place to meet?
dokumori's picture

I'll be at the RFH (Level 2)

I'll be at the RFH (Level 2) from around 18:30. I'll be wearing a lime green Drupalcon Paris T-shirt if I don't forget. If you can't find me, call me at my mobile (see my profile). Looking forward to seeing you all!
anthonyalbertyn's picture

I'll be there too

I'll see you there. Look forward to it.
Piyush's picture

Hope to be there too

I've used Ubercart in a few sites and keen to share and learn more.

Hi

Hi guys, I'll try to make it too. I began using Drupal about 6-8 months ago but have not fully explored Ubercart yet. It would be great to discuss the module as well as the different payment gateways. Chris www.chris-aranha.co.uk

I'll try and make it

Alas I can't be there tonight, but I'm really keen to get some ubercart help if anyone is feeling they'd like to do some coding for money. Please skype me (eddowding) for more info.

what about a more formal gathering later on?

hi everybody, probably like a lot of folkes, i can't make it to the ubercart meeting ( i live in france ), but would be prepared to come over for a day and get some good basic instruction as i am certainly a ubercart newbie. This could be a paid-for event? alternatively, i could arrange a meeting over here... ryanair, bless their souls... do so cheap flights to stansted/ limoges? day of work day of sampling the local food and wine? anybody interested? boz
madamstan's picture

Woot!

Boss kindly gave me a few quid before payday so can deffo make it now! Will take 40mins to get to Embankment from Park Royal so should be there about 6.45 - please don't start without me!! Stan x

Would have loved to join you

Would have loved to join you guys last week but was on holiday. Will look forward to the next time... will there be a next time? :)

Good to meet you all

Hi Guys, It was good to meet you all on Friday. If you were there and you are available, we are looking for someone with some Ubercart experience to build a pretty basic site. Ideally you should have a couple of Ubercart sites under your belt and it will probably require a bit of custom gateway programming with Sage Pay, and report customisation. It will also require scraping a site for the HTML and CSS to create a theme. Work is due to start immediately. If you're interested, please use my contact form. Oliver

Great meetup

Good to see everyone. Quite a turnout considering it was a friday night, and short notice. PS I got my import done over the weekend. ;) --- Freelance Geospatial, Database & Web Programming web: http://www.andrewlarcombe.co.uk email: andrew@andrewlarcombe.co.uk

Didn't hear about this in time, but I'd be interested in attending if it happens again
