Hi all drupalers in the UK,
I have a site that I want to host in the UK, but I have been having trouble getting something up that doesn't run really slowly compared to my local box on shared hosting.
I saw the previous plug for http://www.webhost.uk.net/ but I was a little concerned that it might have been a spam, but I am taking a look at them now.
Does anyone have any suggestions for serious drupal expereinced webhosts in the UK?
Thanks,
T
Host Evaluation
We are currently evaluating multiple hosts to make a decision for all of our clients. I'll post the findings here as soon as they are ready. Are you looking for shared or dedicated servers? Managed or not?

Hosting
Hello,
My name is Sam Moore and I run a newly established web hosting company.
If we are talking about a fair number of clients then as we are fairly new, we will be very open to price negotiation.
To the best of my understanding the going rate for drupal hosting is 4-5 Pounds per month and we would certainly be willing to go below that.
If you would be interested or have any questions then feel free to get in touch.
My email is smoore@gigaquid.co.uk and my mobile number is 07988 813369.
Many Thanks,
Sam Moore -GigaQuid

impossible
linode
if you want a VPS, I use linode, better value for the same money and they have a datacentre in London.
I am a director of Ecohost
I am a director of Ecohost (http://ecohost.coop) - a co-operative web hosting company offering shared hosting on UK based servers running on 100% renewable electricity tarifs (from Ecotricity). As far as we know we are in the only UK data centre to currently run on 100% renewable electricty.
We are small. We have ethics. We love Drupal.
While we may not be large enough (yet) for some potential clients, we are growning fast and host a fair few Drupal sites. So I would encourage Drupalers to give us a try.
Feel free to get in touch if you would like to discuss how we could help.

All the best.

Do you offer something else
Do you offer something else than FTP access too? (SSH, SVN, GIT)? I feel it's necessary for any company to compete with Drupal hosting (Drush!)
I use
I use http://www.worldtophost.com/
It has the best web hosting plan and good domain name registration.

hosting plans
i went through the stage of getting the cheapest deal for hosting, but as your drupal site gets bigger, more complex with all its whistles and bells, i soon got the 'white screen of death'... practically no memory to run php which was fixed by the hosting company.
i fixed the problem by hiring my own virtual server it may be a little more expensive, but since I have had not problems, running fairly large multilingual sites quite happily. the cheapest solution can often give you headaches.
People generally prefer
People generally prefer hosting location depending on their client base. If majority of your client base is from UK, hosting your website(s) on UK based servers is usually recommended. Try eukhost.com

Hi!
Hi! I would like to share my experience too. Have you seen this video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8PidNJLrek
It is very hard to find a good hosting provider using google, the search results are full of advertising websites, and it becomes harder and harder to find something valuable in ths mess.
Tired of searching I and decided to buy an account in one.com, they were the cheapest and one of the oldest. I'm happy with the service, it's good. But you can use only one account for one domain! Wnat another domain? Buy another account.
Nothing about it here - http://www.one.com/en/ , that dissapointed me a little, but, I guess for this money thi is the best I can get.
I would tranfer to another webhosting provider if it is the same price and allows multiple domains on one accout, otherwise -no, thanks :)
I've been dealing with
I've been dealing with problem of selecting proper Drupal hosting so many times so I've created small testing script which can help you to check if chosen hosting fits all the Drupal needs. You can find this script here: http://www.seo-web-design-aberdeen.co.uk/forum/webhosting-tricks/drupal-... - it is checking specifications for Drupal 5 - 7.
I am also creating list of hostings where this script have been uploaded (and can still be reached), so you can see how this hostings are doing. So far have been tested:
Unlimited webhosting
Webfusion
PurleyHosting
UK web.solutions
UK Data Flame
ONEbit
Page with links to scripts on this hostings can be found here: http://www.seo-web-design-aberdeen.co.uk/forum/drupal-hosting/best-drupa...
All the best with your Drupal!
Michal
There are a few specialists
There are a few specialists in USA. In UK I really like Evo Hosting (though I dread them being bought out by a big company) for cheap hosting. The use lighttpd and SSD. May be worth a try with Drupal, though I have only used them for WP. If you want a Drupal site fast, I think you need to allow enough RAM for an opcode cache, some kind of data caching in RAM, and possibly Varnish page caching in RAM, as well Apache and PHP execution. I host a few clients on a London-based Linode because I hate to offer a client a slow site, but maintenance and tuning are so time-consuming that it does not really make a profit, so I am waiting for a good UK Drupal specialist to come along!
