Workshop PLan

Our developer meeting on Wednesday was almost a meta-meeting: we spent the evening discussing what we could be discussing at the meetings. We found that there was a lot to discuss! We also had some remote users listening in via Skype. It would be good to do some research to find out how to best support remote connections.

I'll attach an outline of the document we are building. (It's in OPML format, great for Mac users, but a struggle for PC users - I cant actually get my OPML editor to save to any other format!) Our aim with this is to come up with a series of themes for each of the meetings next year. Ideally, we will link the developer meetings and the user meetings, starting a topic on the Friday, and continuing in more detail on the Wed two weeks later.

It has been great to see our developer meetings grow over the last few months. Now that we have a growing group, it will be very good to see how we take this further. What are the steps we need to take to build a strong contributing community ? How can we as a London/UK community begin to really become part of the active Drupal community ?

We can probably kill two birds with one stone by working together on some modules. I am sure there are a number of half built modules hanging around in the back corners of your hard drive. Would you be up for getting them out, dusting them off, and letting the UK community join in ? This would let us share our knowledge of Drupal coding, would give us a chance to do some actual work together, and should end up with some good new Drupal features.

Drupal's community is not just developers, there are many ways for people to get involved. It would be good to get those who don't want to code to feel they are able to contribute too.  Perhaps we should evolve our developer meetings into contributor meetings ?

As we are approaching the end of our first year of Drupal meetups in London, it is great to look back and see how exciting it has been to be involved, and it's even more exciting to look ahead and see where all this is going. Thanks to everyone who has come along, and I'm looking forward to meeting those who have not yet had a chance to attend.
