As you probably know, Drupal was one of five nominees of this award sponsored by Packt Publishing. The announcement was finally made this morning.

"The winner is......"

(drum roll....)

Joomla!....

Noooo!... That can't be true! Drupal still got the second place, but this is not what we wanted to see!... Drupal missed the 1st by just ONE POINT! I'm sure the voting and calculation was done in a fair manner, but I'm curious to know how they calculated the points, including how many people voted to which CMS and so on.

If the award was given to the 'most popular' (the largest number of users) CMS instead of 'the best' CMS, this result may actually be true. Considering that vast majority of people who live on the face of the earth are not familiar with HTML/CSS/PHP, many of them would find Joomla more user-friendly. This, at the same time, may explain why Joomla is short of developers whereas Drupal has almost too many of them. Joomla have a large number of users, but not many of them may have no ability to contribute as developers. Drupal, on the other hand, users just develop what they need (and end up in having a huge selection of modules).

With all the efforts and contributions by Drupal community (especially by the UK one!), I'm sure Drupal will get the first place with a sizeable plurality next year.

Anyway, congratulations to Joomla and Drupal!
