I am looking for a book that will enable me to get the must from Drupal as well as helping me customise, create themes and general make Drupal do what I want instead of the default options.
There seems to be 2 books avalable:
Building Websites with Drupal by PACKT
Building Online Communities with Drupal, phpBB and WordPress by APres
Can any one recomend which one of the books is best for going beyond the basic installation routine.
I have both books and sold
I have both books and sold the one published by PACKT. It only gives you a brief introduction to drupal and does not explain how drupal works at the code level. It has some good explanation on user privilege, but you can find it on the web too.
The other book is highly recommended. It explains drupal's theming at the code level and gives you sample codes to override some theme functions. It also gives you maintenance tips and other useful information.
I would also recommend drupal tutorials prepared by IBM's software engineers.
They explains about how theming works in a great depth and also explains how to build a module (although their example lacks a funciton), etc.
Good luck!
Yep, I'd second that
Agree, I'll third that
Book Suggestions
Hi thanks for all the feed back.
I shall wait for the new book to come out and by both the Apres books together. Also the IBM article I found very interesting. I have printed the lot out and am slowly working my way through them.
Cheers for the help once the site is more presentable I will post a link.
Pro Drupal Development may be worth checking when it comes out.
It's written by John VanDyk and Matt Westgate so it should be very good.

Ah, I was waiting for this
copy editing stage
Latest progress report from John is that the book is at the copy editing stage, so just a bit longer to wait before it hits the printing presses.
