Hi everyone
I live near Bolton, Lancashire and REALLY need to tackle Drupal seriously and doing so would be much easier in 'company', especially if as friendly (and knowledgeable - though that will hopefully develop!) as the London group. I had the great pleasure of meeting Robert Castelo, Ian, Peter and other London based Drupalers last February. I was in London for the day and met Charlie Wright in the Apple store...
http://hodges-model.blogspot.com/2007/02/appl...
Equally bizarrely I met Roger James there - we first met in Bath Oct 2006. (Thanks Roger for your time on the phone - I owe you a call and want to make sure our chat isn't wasted...)
I've installed the WAMP components separately (left it), then ApacheTriad (left it) and most recently settled on WAMP5 and Drupal 5.
I found Chris' post about a NW group [Wed, 15/11/2006 - 23:56 — matason] have replied and e-mailed, but if anyone else up North is interested. I live Bolton, work in Bamber Bridge just south of Preston.
Just about to check on MySQL security, have a database with two tables (not linked - 'installed' to Drupal as yet) and am working through the Themes making some notes:
Warped – Black V4.7
Wall – 3D shelf wall-top graphic side background red. V5
Uncomplicated B&W very basic as per title (Harlequin?)
UBIQUITY uses Photoshop files very stylish three columns active support-develop
Typography paramount – text only no images
THE GREEN HOUSE (looks mod)
SIBERIA 12 regions V5
SANDS tables
SANDS CSS also uses SILK icons free V4 only
SALAMANDER V5 large blue area - news
NEWSFLASH V5
NEWFANGLED V5
MyDrupal Universal V5
Multiflex 37 V5 fixed width
Mondrian – Boxy colourful as expected! V5
META THEME V4 – looks good but NOT V5
up to: Litejazz (from Roople with Newsflash & Whitejazz)
Also reading Mercer's book. I've dabbled with CSS, but nothing on the scale of the themes.
I do need to pick this up I'd like to rewrite / archive some (all!) of the content at:
http://www.p-jones.demon.co.uk/
Need a theme can can reflect my site's content - the structure of a health care model - on the homepage then utilise the styling throughout.
Anyone interested in meeting in the NW? Will also apply Robert's tutorial - How To Plan A Drupal Project - to my project, which I'd be happy to discuss as part of the 'meeting'. As well as my first stumbling steps since this post...
Hope to hear from someone (it will make the darker nights bearable!).
Regards
Peter

Let's do it!
Hi Peter,
Thanks for getting in touch, looks like Preston might be the best location, I know one other guy based in Blackpool who I'm sure would come along. I'll do some research on venues...
I'm thinking a Friday night, once a month to start with... Any thoughts?
Best,
Chris
DRUPAL-NW: And then there were TWO, (maybe THREE)
Hi Chris,
Great to hear from you and that - 'there is another' - NW Drupaler. Friday night should be ok here.
As a start - if there's just three/four of us could we possibly meet earlier after work? I met a work colleague (business! :-) ) recently as soon after 5 as pos till 6.45 at Sainsbury's cafe Deepdale, Preston. Just an idea - a relatively quiet pub would also be fine.
I'll let you know here if I hear from anyone at this end as I've also mentioned Drupal+NW on the h2cm blog.
Picking up the Mercer book again noticed Chapter 9 'Advanced features and modifications' and the Flexinode module:
http://drupal.org/project/flexinode
Look f/w to meeting you and learning of your work and putting a Drupal foot f/w - it's full of surprises for me at least....
[As winter beckons it would be great to think of the group possibly meeting next summer at Rivington Barn, nr Horwich - it's open till 9pm then.)
Best
Peter
P.S. I hope we can be at least a '7' Chris and not a '5' - that way you're chief... :-)

Hi Peter
Cool, glad you're spreading the good word ;)
Can you make the 2nd Wednesday in the month 7pm till 9pm ish at MOKA, Preston - http://www.moka-restaurant.com?
Personally I wouldn't be able to make anything before 7pm.
Regards,
Chris
?NW England Drupal group Moka Preston Oct 10 7-9pm
Hello again Chris
That's fine... what if we start Wednesday 10 October 7-9pm at Moka as you suggest in Preston?
http://www.moka-restaurant.com?
That way there's time for word to get around a bit and we can either:
* buy a Drupal T-shirt or cap;
* or, wash existing Drupal T-shirt.
I guess 1st time we can introduce ourselves, IT interests and work/plans with Drupal....
What would be good - for me personally - through the 'dark months' is to have some 'work' to bring and talk through for say at max a 20 minute slot. Puts some pressure on to get things done. Maybe a mix of some topics structure and free-chatter? Plenty of time though for all that!
I'm sure we could also learn a lot from Robert and fellow London Drupallers. If we picked up a head a steam I wonder if someone could possibly join us - that would be a real development? Last Feb in London it really was great listening in, noting the welcome, enthusiasm, co-op.
Someone mentioned today 'learning by osmosis' about other people's clinical referrals (which is really helpful if someone's off-sick) that's really cool and what London seemed 2b about. I'm convinced I need a group to Drupe. Nothing is happening otherwise.
Hope that's ok and you connect with the potential attendee at Blackpool?
We can confirm just before 10:10:07 (numbers) and exchange phone numbers by e-mail - just in case it's me and thee (late, ill..)?
Regards and cheers++ for your post last year!
Peter
Here's another!
And there's more of us out there, I'm sure!
Chris -- I've spoken to you before about meeting at GeekUp, but I haven't been able to go for the past few months. However, if I can't make it all the way to Preston on a Wednesday night perhaps we could arrange to meet fellow Drupalistas there?
Thanks for getting the ball rolling, Peter.
Cheers,
James
Three of us!
Hi James
Welcome onboard! Hope to meet you sometime if not next month. How far away are you?
Maybe we could switch venue for November? But that's jumping ahead rather...
Just finding my way around Drupal config...
Cheers
Peter
