DrupalCon in the UK?

So I've been thinking about organising a DrupalCon in the UK for a while and once the Request for Proposals (http://drupal.org/node/189795) went out, I started seriously looking at it.

Would anyone be interested in getting involved in this? You don't need to know much about running events (I've got that bit pretty well covered) but I could do with some people who know considerably more about Drupal than I do (I'm no developer, that's for sure) for the programme committee and any other input is always welcome.

If you want to know more, please get in touch either here or you can e-mail me at niuserre@gmail.com - I'm also on IRC a fair bit as quasi-hayley.

Cheers,
Hayley

Yeah, I'd be interested

It'd be good to chat more about this with you and anyone else who's keen.

Re: Yeah, I'd be interested

Excellent, do you IRC?

I'm new to IRC ...

... but I'd be up for an IRC meet this week sometime.

We were thinking about it.

We did some thinking about it while in Barcelona, and felt that we should wait a year.

But, if theree was someone else taking the lead, then i think it could be possible.

My feeling was that we shoul find a corporate sponsor who would  be able to fund someoneto work a few days a week for three months in the run up.

it wont be a small amount of work, but people were really eager to do it in London.

I will be more available to chat next week.

That sounds promising. I'd

That sounds promising. I'd be willing to take the lead unpaid until we begin generating revenue (and even then, I've budgeted myself at £5.50/hour for 8 hours/week plus full time for the last two weeks before the event - from previous experience I'd be doing more than that but I'm not looking to do this as a commercial enterprise). I'm currently taking time out from work to read for a degree in events management which is why I can spare the time.

Perhaps I could arrange a group IRC chat for next week for anyone who's interested. Would days or evenings be better?

count me in

I'd be happy to help out in any way I can. I was thinking on doing some free presentation a few weeks before the DrupalCon for beginners to give a general idea of what Drupal is, it's benefits and raise some interest. I have a lot of material because I did lots of Drupal presentations while I was studying. I'd also like to help out in the organization process to help make DrupalCon London a reality. I am sure there'd be lots more people interested in helping out.

Like it

Sounds like an idea worth developing. I'm looking at organising an IRC meeting next week for interested folks to get together, share ideas and see if they like what I've done so far. Would you be up for that?

totally

Thanks. Yeah I'd be happy to join the IRC chat, just post the channel details and the date and time for the meeting. Talk to you soon!

I will be interested as

I will be interested as well..though having said that, I am not the most knowledgable of drupal guys but can answer some basic questions.

That's fine

You don't have to be an expert! As I've said above, would you be interested in an IRC group meeting next week?

IRC sounds a good Idea. I

IRC sounds a good Idea. I wont be able to attend the IRC proposed by niuserre at 14:00. I will prefer anything after office hours ie after 5:30pm

I did wonder about that, if

I did wonder about that, if the majority need it to be out of office hours, I'll move it.

Let me know if we are doing

Let me know if we are doing this IRC tomorrow then

I'm interested, I've been

I'm interested, I've been thinking similar thoughts. PM me with details of the IRC chitchat or whatever?

Group IRC Meet-Up

I'm proposing the following time:

Wednesday 14:00

If the majority of people want a different time then we can change it so please reply here either to let me know you'll be there or to suggest an alternative. I don't mind doing two separate chats if it turns out to be necessary.

I'll set up a channel called #drupalconuk on irc.freenode.net (the standard network used for Drupal) a bit before the time.

Let's try an evening

Can anyone do tonight at about 8pm?

i will be there on the

i will be there on the channel at 8pm tonight

Manuj

So we had a meeting

Myself, manuj_78 and ipwa managed to meet up on IRC to discuss things. I'm trying to organise a space we can use to discuss the proposal further and am waiting to here from Drupal UK on if they could do anything for us in that area.

Once we have a dedicated space, I'll put up some minutes from that meeting for everyone who wants to be involved to look over.

In the meantime, I'd still like to chat to the other people who expressed interest and hopefully we can arrange a suitable time for that - please suggest a time to me!

Things are looking good and I'm confident we can make a UK DrupalCon a reality.

Hi Hayley I am sure we

Hi Hayley

I am sure we can create something for you on Drupal.org.uk.

What kind of tools you need ?

Thanks Peter, we'd probably

Thanks Peter, we'd probably need a forum that was only viewable to a limited group of people - really that's for anyone who wants to get involved but I'd like us to be able to discuss possibilities without everyone being able to read it, especially when some elements may never happen.

It'd also be great if we had somewhere to share files but that's probably a little more complicated.

Is it doable?

I've added a new DupalCon

I've added a new DupalCon forum to discus planning.

Prefer to leave this open and accessable to everyone - this is an Open Source event being planned, so we do want to be as inclusive as we can.

Anything confidential should be sent by email to the person(s) involved.

Thanks Robert. I appreciate

Thanks Robert. I appreciate your view on keeping it open, I just worry about getting people's hopes up on something only for us to pull it for whatever reasons. But I'm all for transparency so we'll give it a go.
