Photography Sites and Drupal ..............

Adeptris's picture
I have never used Drupal before, but I have been looking for a product that could be used by Photographers, not a flash site but by photographers that sell prints and downloads, yes there are products out there but non that pull it all together for a Proper Image licencing site that will be avaliable as a basic package to all under open source. Drupal does not have the functions that photographers need, so I am hoping to form a collective of Photographer / Developers to create a set of modules to facilitate this, there are many many thousands of photographers out there but they are badly serviced as far as software goes, many services charge monthly and promise but not many deliver. Currently my sites run on DotNetNuke, but customisation is hard, and it is not to fast, the galleries are costing £300 a year as there are no modules that deal with Rights Managed pricing. Next I need to pull it all together, any offers contact me david.cox@adeptris.co.uk David

I'd like to create a similar site with Drupal

I've been looking at using Ubercart to sell access (licenses) to my friends photographs while also allowing anybody to use the same service (taking a small fee on each sale for running the service). I managed to get an OK Taxonomy Navigation system working with the "Taxonomy Menu" module (using Views, CCK and Imagecache for the gallery itself) What I'm now wondering is if the Search module is up to searching through vast libraries of photos. I definitely think this is an area that will need extension (a custom built or pre-existing module) to allow a user to quickly find the content they want. Some Javascript to smooth out the search refining process along with dynamic recommendations for more content would be great too. Eventually it'd be great if we could partner and integrate with various printing services to give photographers and designers an even better chance of making money. In short - Yes I'm very interested in building such a group / site Have you posted / spoken to any of the pre-existing Drupal groups? e.g. http://groups.drupal.org/photography
